Here's the important thing to understand about the MacBook Pro Retina, there is no way to see the full retina resolution of 2880 x 1800 so there is no way to see 1:1 or actual pixels, unless maybe you use Aperture which is the only editing program that is written to work with it so far. For the record I have not seen the MacBook Pro with Retina display in real life but I hope to get out this weekend to check one out. My thoughts about some issues might be useful for other photographers out there that are considering buying one. Yesterday a friend asked me about my thoughts on the new the new MacBook Pro with Retina display. There are some issues with the MacBook Pro Retina that you should be aware of and what you need to know Need more info, see Apple's support page: The program covers affected MacBook Pro models until Februor three years from its original date of sale, my computer thankfully failed in the last couple of months of the coverage and thankfully there were no issues with OWC aftermarket SSD drives (two) and RAM effecting the warranty process. This shop is an independent Apple repair center called AMS and is located in Torrance California My shop had my MBP back in my hands in less than two full days for a grand total of $319 ($219 for the top case alone).

I decided to order a new top case or unibody case which includes a new keyboard and touchpad since the laptop was being serviced anyway. My 17 MBP failed a Apple diagnostic test at the service center so they offered to replace the logic board at no charge and under warranty. The page on Apple's support site on this issue has 5 million views: This program was set up earlier this year after consumers discovered that the problem was widespread. This repair would cost $600+ if you have to cover the cost of the repair. My 17 inch MBP would show green strips and restart on its own and boot to a black, blue or gray screen! This issue is solved with a new logic board replaced under warranty.

The card has a different layout than the one in the picture at the link above.Owners of 2011 to early 2013, 15 and 17 inch MacBook Pros need to be aware of any issues that causes video problems like freezes, distorted screen, black or gray screens and restarts.

Also it has a blue putty-looking square above a metal pad that I guess is to radiate heat, I left the putty square there, don’t know if I was supposed to but I don’t imagine that could cause any problem?

I first tried to install it running OS X 10.10.x, when it wasn’t recognized I realized I needed 10.13 so I upgraded, and now trying to install it again, but it’s still not found. I’m quite sure it’s seated properly because it’s seated identically to the old one, and each time I put back the old one it works fine (also it’s in far enough to put back the screw holding it down). I then go into Disk Utility but it doesn’t see the drive (and of course if I go to ‘restore from time machine’ it doesn’t find the disc to restore to either). When I boot up by holding command-R when I press start and a bit thereafter till message appears.

I bought a OWC Aura Pro X SSD / 480 GB to upgrade my early 2014 13” MacBook Air.
